  • Mohammed Shami couldn’t hold back his emotions after dismissing Cheteshwar Pujara
  • Pujara is one of the four Indian players representing Leicestershire

Cheteshwar Pujara’s return to the Indian national Test side ended in disappointment as the star batter was dismissed for a duck by Mohammed Shami on Day 2 of the four-day warm-up against Leicestershire.

Pujara, one of the four Indian players representing Leicestershire, dragged Shami’s ball onto his stumps. After dismissing Pujara, Shami jumped and hugged the batter from behind, giving him a rather warm send-off. Pujara too sported a smile on his face while walking back to the change room.

Pujara hasn’t enjoyed the best of times on the international circuit for India. He was dropped for the home series against Sri Lanka after ending a bad run of form in the longest format of the game. The Saurashtra batter hasn’t scored a century since 2019 and he was axed from the squad after the series loss to South Africa.

Pujara is all set to return to the Test side for the rescheduled 5th Test against England in Birmingham after having been dropped for the Test series against Sri Lanka at home. Pujara fought his way back to the Test team after scoring aplenty in the county season during his stint with Sussex. Pujara scored 720 runs in 5 matches, which included 4 hundred, including a double hundred.

Pujara has been training with the Indian Test team in Leicestershire after arriving in the UK on June 16 with the rest of the Test regulars.
