Legendary tennis star John McEnroe reckoned that winning the 2022 edition of Wimbledon won’t be a walk in the park for Rafael Nadal by any stretch of the imagination. Earlier this month, Nadal won the French Open for the 14th time and secured his 22nd Grand Slam.

However, the Spaniard also talked about his chronic foot problem and sounded uncertain about his future career endeavours. McEnroe said that he was pretty surprised at how Nadal managed to win all the games with his foot issues.

“Rafa’s toughest one is going to be this one for me because if you go by what he said at the French Open, he was injecting himself on his foot during some, if not all, of his matches. I can’t believe you decided not to do that. I’m not sure how he did it in the first place, and he’s still able to win seven matches and it looks incredible, right? The guy looked amazing,” McEnroe was quoted as saying.

McEnroe, the winner of seven Grand Slams, said that he would not have thought too far ahead had he been in Nadal’s place.

“If I’m 36, I don’t know how much longer I’m going to play, going for the Slam, I’d start shooting that foot up again and get through Wimbledon and the Open. That would be me. He may be able to play a few more years. He also talked about wanting to be able to walk when he has kids. That’s a risk that no athlete wants to take,” he stated.

Nadal will go into the upcoming Wimbledon as the No.2 seed. Back in 2008 and 2010, Nadal won the Wimbledon titles after beating Roger Federer and Robin Soderling.
