Former Indian Women’s Team coach WV Raman has heaped praise on Hardik Pandya ahead of his first assignment as captain of the national team in Ireland.

Pandya had a dream run as the Gujarat Titans skipper as he led the team to the IPL 2022 title in their maiden campaign. The Indian all-rounder’s captaincy skills received a lot of praise from all corners and the latest one to chip in is Raman.

Speaking to News24 Sports, the former Women’s team coach said that one of the interesting aspects of the upcoming T20I series against Ireland is the fact that Pandya will be leading the team. Raman also said that his habit of taking responsibility was the best thing he found in the IPL and people would be expecting him to continue in the same way for India.

“There will be excitement in this series because Hardik Pandya is becoming the new captain of the Indian team. The way he captained an IPL team raises everyone’s expectations. His habit of taking responsibility was the best thing I found in the IPL. The expectation is that he will continue in the same way, will motivate everyone nicely,” said Raman.

The former cricketer also said that Pandya starting to bowl again is a good sign for the Indian team ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia. He said that this would give India good balance heading into the tournament. Raman also commented that once Pandya regains confidence in his bowling, he would become an important part of the squad.

“The second thing is that Hardik Pandya is a good all-rounder, he has started bowling again, so this will give the team good balance when we go to the World Cup. Once his confidence increases in the bowling, Hardik Pandya becomes an extremely important member of the team,” said Raman.

When he was asked if the all-rounder should be India’s first choice T20I captain after Rohit Sharma, Raman said that we will have to see how things turn out in his first assignment in Ireland.

“He did good captaincy for an IPL franchise but you will have to see how he leads the Indian team because here there is a selection committee. We will have to see what is their convictions, ideas, and views after seeing his captaincy so that they can make a decision based on that,” said Raman.
